When choosing a cottage for a holiday with your dog, it is worth checking the individual property details carefully. Some cottages have enclosed gardens or patios, while others are within walking distance of a beach or coastal path. Listings also show how many dogs are accepted and whether additional pet charges apply.

The choice of beaches and local dog restrictions varies around the English coast, so where you stay can make a difference, particularly during the summer months. Find Dog-Friendly Cottages Around the English Coast

The South West has the largest choice, with dog-friendly cottages in Cornwall close to beaches, harbour towns and the South West Coast Path. Neighbouring Devon dog-friendly cottages cover both the north and south coasts, while Dorset dog-friendly cottages put you close to the Jurassic Coast and its beaches and coastal walks.

Further east, our dog-friendly cottages on the Isle of Wight include properties around the island, with beaches and sections of the coastal path within easy reach. There are also dog-friendly stays along the Sussex and Kent coasts.

On the east coast, Norfolk dog-friendly cottages are well placed for long beach walks, particularly around North Norfolk. Suffolk also has a mix of beaches, heathland and coastal paths, with our Suffolk dog-friendly cottages available around several of its seaside towns and villages.

Further north, Yorkshire dog-friendly cottages include places to stay around Whitby, Filey and smaller coastal villages. For long sandy beaches with relatively few dog restrictions, our Northumberland dog-friendly cottages include properties near Bamburgh, Beadnell, Seahouses and other parts of the Northumberland coast.

Dog-Friendly Beaches and Coastal Walks in England

Beach rules vary considerably around England. Some beaches welcome dogs throughout the year, while others have seasonal restrictions or designated dog-friendly sections during the summer. Checking the current rules for the beaches close to your cottage is particularly important if you are travelling between May and September.

There are also plenty of alternatives to a day on the sand. The South West Coast Path runs through Cornwall, Devon and Dorset, while the Norfolk Coast Path, Cleveland Way and Northumberland Coast Path provide walking routes in other parts of the country.

Wherever you decide to stay, check the individual cottage details for the number of dogs accepted, outside space and any additional pet charges before booking.
