Dog-Friendly Cottages Near Northumberland’s Beaches

Staying close to the coast makes it easy to combine beach walks with visits to Northumberland’s coastal villages. Our Bamburgh dog-friendly cottages put you close to the village’s large sandy beach, with Bamburgh Castle overlooking the coast.

A few miles south, Seahouses dog-friendly cottages are well placed for exploring the beach towards Bamburgh as well as the coast around the harbour. The walk along the beach between Seahouses and Bamburgh is around three miles each way.

Long Beach Walks with Your Dog

One of the advantages of Northumberland is that dogs are welcome on most of its beaches throughout the year. Bamburgh, Embleton Bay and other stretches of the coast provide plenty of space for walking without the widespread summer dog bans found at many UK seaside resorts.

There are some important exceptions to be aware of. The Northumberland coast is an important breeding area for shorebirds, and dogs need to be kept on a lead around the protected nesting area in the middle of Beadnell Bay during the breeding season. Temporary signs and fenced areas may also be used elsewhere to protect nesting birds.

Follow the Northumberland Coast Path

The Northumberland Coast Path runs for around 60 miles between Cresswell and Berwick-upon-Tweed, passing beaches, castles and coastal villages along the way. You can use individual sections for shorter walks rather than following the entire route.

Popular choices include the coast between Seahouses and Bamburgh and the route from Craster towards Dunstanburgh Castle and Embleton Bay. Dogs should be kept under close control around livestock and wildlife, and local signs should be followed where leads are required.
