Dog Friendly Holidays in Bamburgh

Bamburgh Beach is the obvious place to start. The beach stretches for miles beneath the castle and dogs are allowed throughout the year. There is plenty of sand at lower tides, while paths through the dunes provide another choice if you want to vary your route.

The village is only a short distance from the beach, making it possible to combine a walk along the coast with time around Bamburgh itself. Dogs are also allowed in the outdoor grounds at Bamburgh Castle, although they cannot enter the indoor areas of the castle.

When choosing your cottage, check the individual property details for the number of dogs accepted and any additional pet charges.

Walk the Beach from Bamburgh to Seahouses

One of the best-known local walks follows the beach south from Bamburgh to Seahouses. It is just over three miles each way and is predominantly across sand, with the castle behind you as you head towards Seahouses.

You can stop in Seahouses before walking back or use the local bus for the return journey. This makes it easy to shorten the day if you don’t want to cover more than six miles.

For a shorter route, there is also a circular walk of just over two miles around Bamburgh Castle, the dunes and beach.

Coastal Walks Around Bamburgh

The Northumberland Coast Path passes through this part of the county on its 62-mile route between Cresswell and Berwick-upon-Tweed. From Bamburgh you can follow shorter sections south towards Seahouses or head north towards Budle Bay.

The coastline is important for wildlife, so dogs should be kept under close control around birds and other wildlife, particularly where local signs request it. Northumberland’s Space for Shorebirds project specifically asks dog walkers to take extra care around breeding and visiting shorebirds.

With year-round access to Bamburgh Beach and miles of walking routes nearby, you don’t need to travel far to find somewhere different to walk each day. For more places to stay with your dog, browse our Northumberland dog friendly coastal cottages.
