Seahouses is well suited to holidays with a dog, with sandy beaches on both sides of the village and long coastal walks starting close to the harbour. Dogs are allowed on Seahouses Beach throughout the year, so you don’t have to plan your stay around the usual summer beach restrictions. Our Seahouses dog friendly cottages include places to stay close to the village and surrounding coastline, with Bamburgh, Beadnell and the Northumberland Coast Path all within easy reach.

Beaches and Walks with Your Dog in Seahouses

One of the simplest walks starts directly from Seahouses and follows the beach north towards Bamburgh. The route is around three miles each way and is predominantly on sand, with Bamburgh Castle visible ahead for much of the walk. Both Seahouses and Bamburgh beaches welcome dogs throughout the year.

South of Seahouses, the coast continues towards Beadnell. This gives you another choice for beach walks without travelling far, although there is a seasonal wildlife restriction in the middle of Beadnell Bay to protect breeding shorebirds. Follow the signs and keep dogs on a lead where requested.

If easy access to the coast matters when choosing your accommodation, check each cottage description for its exact location and dog policy, including how many dogs are accepted.

Follow the Coast towards Bamburgh

The walk to Bamburgh is particularly useful because it can be as simple as a few miles along the sand or incorporated into a longer route. Once you reach Bamburgh, dogs are also welcome in the grounds and Victorian Stables at Bamburgh Castle, although not inside the State Rooms.

You don’t necessarily have to walk both ways either. Local bus services provide another option for the return journey, although timetables should be checked before setting off.

Longer Dog Walks Along the Northumberland Coast

For longer days out, the Northumberland Coast Path passes through Seahouses on its 62-mile route between Cresswell and Berwick-upon-Tweed. You can follow shorter sections through Bamburgh and Beadnell rather than tackling a full day’s walk.

St Oswald’s Way also follows this section of coastline, passing through Bamburgh, Seahouses and Beadnell on its way south. Dogs are welcome along the entire 96-mile route but should be kept under close control, particularly around livestock and wildlife.

The combination of unrestricted beaches and long coastal routes makes Seahouses particularly easy to explore with a dog. For more places to stay along this coastline, browse our Northumberland dog friendly cottages by the sea.
