Beadnell is a small coastal village with a large sandy bay and miles of walking routes nearby. Dogs can enjoy the beach throughout the year, although there is a seasonal wildlife restriction in the middle of Beadnell Bay during the breeding season. Our Beadnell dog friendly cottages include places to stay around the village and surrounding coast, giving you easy access to the beach and Northumberland Coast Path. Seahouses is just along the coast, while longer walks lead south towards High Newton and Low Newton.

Dog Friendly Holidays in Beadnell

Beadnell Bay curves south from the village and provides plenty of space for walks on the sand. Unlike many UK resort beaches, there is no general summer dog ban here, so the beach can form part of your holiday at any time of year.

There is, however, an important exception. The area around the Long Nanny Burn in the middle of the bay is used by breeding Arctic and little terns during the summer. Visitors with dogs should follow the signs and put their dog on a lead before reaching the protected area.

When looking through our cottages, check the individual listing for the property’s own dog policy, including the number of dogs accepted and any additional charges.

Walk from Beadnell towards Low Newton

One of the main advantages of staying in Beadnell with a dog is the amount of coastline you can explore without getting in the car. From the village, you can head south along Beadnell Bay towards High Newton and Low Newton-by-the-Sea.

The route combines sandy beach and coastal paths, with the Long Nanny wildlife area roughly midway along the bay. Dogs can continue through this section, but they need to be kept on a lead around the protected nesting site during the breeding season.

Low Newton sits beside another long stretch of sand at Embleton Bay, giving you the option of extending the walk further along the coast.

The Northumberland Coast Path passes Beadnell as part of its 62-mile route between Cresswell and Berwick-upon-Tweed. You don’t need to tackle a long section to make use of it. Head north and you can walk towards Seahouses, while the route south takes you through some of the quieter parts of the Northumberland coast.

Wildlife is a particularly important consideration along this coastline. Dogs should be kept under close control around birds and livestock, and local signs should always be followed. The Northumberland Coast National Landscape also asks dog walkers to give shorebirds plenty of space rather than allowing dogs to approach resting or feeding flocks.

With a large sandy bay and coastal paths running in both directions, Beadnell gives you plenty of choices for daily walks. For more places to stay with your dog, browse our Northumberland dog friendly beach cottages.
