Trearddur Bay gives you a good choice of coastal walks when staying on Anglesey with your dog. The village has a large sandy beach, smaller bays nearby and the Anglesey Coastal Path running directly along the coast. Our Trearddur Bay dog friendly cottages include places to stay close to the village and surrounding shoreline. A seasonal dog restriction applies to part of the main beach from May to September, but dogs can still use other areas, while longer walks lead towards Porth Dafarch, South Stack and Rhoscolyn.

Dog Friendly Holidays in Trearddur Bay

Dogs are restricted from a designated section of Trearddur Bay beach from 1 May to 30 September each year. The restriction does not cover the whole beach, and Anglesey Council confirms that there is still an area where dogs and their owners can access the shore during this period. Dogs must also be kept on a lead on the promenade.

Outside the summer restriction period, dogs can use the designated section again. Signs and maps at the beach show exactly where the seasonal restriction applies.

Trearddur Bay also gives you direct access to the Anglesey Coastal Path, so there are plenty of alternatives to the main beach. For more places to stay around the island, browse our Anglesey dog friendly lodges by the sea.

Walk from Trearddur Bay towards South Stack

One of the best longer walks starts directly in Trearddur Bay and follows the coast north towards Holyhead. The route passes several small bays before reaching Porth Dafarch and then continues around the cliffs towards South Stack and Holyhead Mountain.

The complete Trearddur Bay to Holyhead section is around 11.8 miles and is classed as challenging, but you can simply follow a shorter section and return the same way. Dogs are welcome on the route.

Porth Dafarch also has a designated dog-restricted area from 1 May to 30 September, so check the signs before taking your dog onto the beach during summer.

Coastal Walks towards Rhoscolyn

For a different walk, head south from Trearddur Bay on the coastal path towards Rhoscolyn. The official Four Mile Bridge to Trearddur Bay section runs for around 9.3 miles, passing a series of small bays and the rocky coastline around Rhoscolyn before reaching Trearddur Bay. Dogs are welcome on this section of the route.

You don’t need to complete the whole section. Walking out from Trearddur Bay and returning along the same route gives you plenty of flexibility depending on how far you and your dog want to go.

Much of the Anglesey Coastal Path crosses farmland, heathland and other wildlife habitats. Dogs should be kept under control and in sight, particularly around livestock and wildlife.
