Rhosneigr is a great place to stay if you want plenty of beach walks with your dog. The village has two broad sandy beaches, Traeth Crigyll and Traeth Llydan, neither of which is included in Anglesey’s seasonal beach dog restrictions. Our Rhosneigr dog friendly cottages give you a base close to the coast, with the Anglesey Coastal Path and several countryside routes nearby. You can also walk around Llyn Maelog before joining Traeth Llydan for a route that combines the lake, dunes and beach.

Dog Friendly Beach Holidays in Rhosneigr

Rhosneigr gives you plenty of space for walks beside the sea. Traeth Crigyll lies immediately north of the village, while Traeth Llydan stretches south towards the dunes beside Llyn Maelog. Both are broad sandy beaches, with rocky areas around parts of the shoreline.

Unlike several other popular beaches on Anglesey, neither is listed among the seven beaches with designated dog exclusion areas from 1 May to 30 September. This makes Rhosneigr particularly useful if being able to reach the beach with your dog throughout the year is important to you.

Walk Around Llyn Maelog and Traeth Llydan

One of the easiest local walks combines Llyn Maelog with Traeth Llydan. The official Rhosneigr circular walk covers around 2.2 miles and is mainly flat, although parts of the lakeside path can become rocky or muddy. The final section joins the beach at Traeth Llydan before returning towards Rhosneigr.

Llyn Maelog is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and supports a wide range of birds, including herons, oystercatchers, coots and reed warblers. Keep your dog under close control around the lake and avoid allowing it to disturb birds around the water and reedbeds.

Longer Walks from Rhosneigr

The Anglesey Coastal Path gives you plenty of scope for longer walks. From Rhosneigr you can follow the coastline south towards Aberffraw or head north past Traeth Crigyll towards Traeth Cymyran and the coast around RAF Valley.

You don’t need to complete an entire section of the coastal path. A walk out from Rhosneigr followed by the same route back gives you an easy way to adjust the distance to suit your dog.

Some routes cross farmland and important wildlife habitats. Dogs should always be kept under control and in sight, particularly around livestock and nesting birds. Anglesey’s official walking guidance also asks dog owners to follow local signs and keep to marked paths where appropriate.
