Beach Holidays in Bude

Bude sits on Cornwall’s north coast, close to the Devon border, with sandy beaches, surf, coast path walks and a town centre with shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants. It suits families, couples, dog owners and groups who want the beach nearby without being too far from everyday facilities.

This part of Cornwall has a slightly more relaxed feel than some of the county’s busier resort towns, with big Atlantic beaches, sea pools, cliffs and smaller coastal villages all within easy reach.

Nearby towns

Bude is well placed for exploring both north Cornwall and west Devon. Widemouth Bay is close by and popular for surfing, beach days and open sea views. Crackington Haven has a smaller, quieter feel, while Boscastle is worth visiting for its harbour, coastal walks and dramatic cliff scenery.

Further south, Tintagel makes a popular day trip, especially for the castle ruins and coastal views. Just over the Devon border, Clovelly offers something different, with its steep cobbled street, harbour and car-free village centre.

Beaches

Summerleaze Beach is Bude’s main town beach, with sand at low tide, beach huts, cafés nearby and Bude Sea Pool beside the rocks. Crooklets Beach sits just to the north and is popular for surfing, bodyboarding and family beach days.

Widemouth Bay is larger and more open, with plenty of space for walking and watching the surf. For a wilder feel, Northcott Mouth and Sandymouth offer cliffs, rock pools and longer beach walks when the tide is right. Tide times matter on this coast, so check before heading out.

Things to do and points of interest

Surfing is a big part of Bude, with lessons and board hire available around the main beaches. Bude Sea Pool is another highlight, giving swimmers a sheltered seawater pool beside Summerleaze Beach.

The South West Coast Path runs through the town, with routes north towards Sandymouth and Duckpool or south towards Widemouth Bay. For an easier walk, Bude Canal is a useful choice, especially with children or dogs. Tintagel, Boscastle, Clovelly and Hartland are all within reach for days away from the beach.
