Widemouth Bay is a large sandy bay on the North Cornwall coast, around three miles south of Bude. The beach stretches for nearly two miles and is particularly popular for surfing and bodyboarding, with rock pools around the southern end at Black Rock. Cafés and other facilities are close to the beach, while the South West Coast Path runs along the cliffs above the bay. You can follow the coast north towards Bude or head south towards Millook and the more rugged coastline beyond Widemouth.

Walk the Coast Between Widemouth Bay and Bude

The South West Coast Path provides a direct walking route between Widemouth Bay and Bude. You can follow the cliffs north from the bay before eventually reaching the town, where the route connects with Summerleaze Beach and Bude Canal.

There is also a 5½-mile circular walk from Bude to Widemouth Bay. The route follows the Coast Path to Widemouth before heading inland through the countryside and returning beside Bude Canal. Visit Bude estimates around three hours for the complete walk.

Heading south from Widemouth takes you towards Millook and Crackington Haven, where the coastline becomes steeper and the walking more demanding.
