Broad Haven has a long sandy beach and plenty of coastal walking nearby, making it a practical base for a holiday with your dog. A seasonal restriction applies to the northern third of the beach, but the rest remains available to dogs throughout the summer. Our Broad Haven dog friendly cottages include places to stay close to the village and surrounding coast, with Little Haven just to the south and the Pembrokeshire Coast Path running through the area. Outside the summer restriction period, dogs can use the whole of Broad Haven Beach.

Dog Friendly Holidays in Broad Haven

Broad Haven Beach has a large area of firm sand at low tide, giving you plenty of room for longer walks beside the sea. From 1 May to 30 September, dogs are excluded from the northern third of the beach. The restriction only covers this designated section, rather than the entire beach.

That leaves the southern part available for dogs during the summer. From October through April, the seasonal restriction is lifted and dogs can use the whole beach. Signs at Broad Haven show the restricted area, so it is worth checking them when you arrive.

The village itself has places to eat and drink close to the seafront, along with shops and other facilities. If you are choosing accommodation specifically for a break with your dog, check the individual cottage details for the number of dogs accepted and any additional pet charges.

Walk from Broad Haven to Little Haven

Little Haven is around a mile south of Broad Haven and gives you another beach and coastal village to explore. At low tide, it is possible to walk around the headlands from Broad Haven to Little Haven across the sand. You need to check the tide carefully, as the incoming sea can cut off the route between the two villages.

The Pembrokeshire Coast Path provides another way to explore the area, although the designated route between Broad Haven and Little Haven includes a road section. Once beyond Little Haven, the Coast Path continues along the cliffs towards places such as St Brides and Marloes.

More Walks with Your Dog Around Broad Haven

You don’t have to tackle a long section of the Coast Path to find a good walk. There is a 1.6-mile circular route at Broad Haven that combines the coast with fields and a wooded valley. The route includes livestock areas and uneven sections, so dogs should be kept under close control.

For a longer day out, the Coast Path runs north from Broad Haven towards Newgale and Solva. The terrain can be rugged and exposed in places, with steep cliffs along sections of the route. Dogs should be kept close and away from cliff edges, particularly in windy conditions.

Broad Haven gives you a good combination of sandy beach and coastal walking without having to travel far from your cottage. For more places to stay with your dog around the county, browse our Pembrokeshire dog friendly coastal cottages to rent.
