Benllech has a large sandy beach and miles of coastline to explore with your dog. A seasonal restriction applies to part of the main beach during summer, but dogs can still use other areas of the shore. Our Benllech dog friendly cottages include places to stay around the village and surrounding coast, with the Anglesey Coastal Path providing walks towards Moelfre and Red Wharf Bay. Outside the summer restriction period, dogs can also use the designated section of Benllech Beach, giving you even more space for walks beside the sea.

Dogs are excluded from a designated section of Benllech Beach from 1 May to 30 September. The restriction only covers part of the beach, and Anglesey Council confirms that dogs and their owners can still use another area during these months. Dogs must also be kept on a lead on Benllech promenade.

From 1 October to 30 April, the seasonal beach restriction does not apply. Maps and signs at the beach show the area covered by the summer ban.

If you want to explore other parts of the island during your stay, our Anglesey dog friendly cottages by the sea include properties in coastal locations around Anglesey.

Walk the Coast from Benllech to Moelfre

The Anglesey Coastal Path passes through Benllech and continues north towards Moelfre. This gives you an alternative to walking on the main beach, particularly during the summer months.

Benllech forms part of the official Moelfre to Pentraeth section of the coastal path. The complete section is around 6.2 miles and is graded moderate. The route passes beaches, fields and rocky sections of coastline, and dogs are welcome.

You can simply walk north from Benllech for as far as you want before returning the same way, or continue to Moelfre for a longer day out.

Red Wharf Bay and Walks South of Benllech

Head in the opposite direction and the coastal path runs from Benllech towards Red Wharf Bay. The route leaves the seafront, follows paths behind the beach and eventually reaches the shoreline at Traeth Coch, the Welsh name for Red Wharf Bay.

This section gives you a mixture of coast, woodland and open countryside rather than one continuous beach walk. Some parts of the route cross fields, so keep your dog under close control around livestock and follow any signs along the way.

The wider Anglesey Coastal Path passes through farmland, dunes, coastal heath, saltmarsh and other important wildlife habitats. The full route covers around 130 miles, so Benllech also gives you plenty of scope to explore other sections during your holiday.
