Choose from 40 self-catering holiday homes in Benllech

Benllech is a seaside village on the east coast of Anglesey, with a large sandy beach below the village. At low tide, the sand extends a long way across the bay, while cafés, shops and restaurants are close to the seafront. The Anglesey Coastal Path passes through Benllech, with walks towards Moelfre in one direction and Red Wharf Bay in the other. The village is also well placed for exploring the eastern side of the island, including Llanddona, Pentraeth and Beaumaris.

Walk from Benllech to Red Wharf Bay

Head south from Benllech and the Anglesey Coastal Path follows the coast towards Red Wharf Bay, known in Welsh as Traeth Coch. The bay stretches for around 2.5 miles, with a huge area of sand exposed at low tide. Pentraeth Forest borders the eastern side of the bay and is home to red squirrels.

The official coastal path route continues around Red Wharf Bay towards Pentraeth, passing woodland and open sections of shoreline along the way. You can also continue around the eastern side of the bay towards Llanddona, which has another long sandy beach and views across Red Wharf Bay.

Explore the Coast towards Moelfre

In the opposite direction, the coastal path runs north from Benllech towards Moelfre. This section follows a mixture of seafront, rocky shoreline and coastal paths, making it easy to choose a shorter walk rather than covering a full stage of the route.

Moelfre is one of several coastal villages worth visiting from Benllech, while further around the island you can explore beaches, harbours and walking routes along Anglesey’s 130-mile coastal path. Around 95% of the route lies within the island’s designated National Landscape.
