Dog Friendly Cottages in Abersoch by the Sea

Choose from 89 dog friendly holiday homes in Abersoch

Abersoch is a good base for a dog friendly holiday on the Llŷn Peninsula, with sandy beaches and miles of coastal walking nearby. A seasonal restriction applies to part of the main beach, but there are other stretches of coastline to explore with your dog. Our Abersoch dog friendly cottages include places to stay around the village and surrounding area, with the Wales Coast Path providing routes towards Llanbedrog, Machroes and the quieter southern side of the peninsula.

Dog Friendly Holidays in Abersoch

Abersoch’s main beach is a long, sheltered stretch of sand on the southern side of the Llŷn Peninsula. From 1 April to 30 September, dogs are excluded from a designated northern section of the beach. The restriction does not cover the entire beach, so dog owners can still use the unrestricted section during these months.

Outside the restriction period, there is more freedom to explore the main beach with your dog. During spring and summer, check the council signs when you arrive so you know exactly where the exclusion area begins and ends.

Abersoch also has shops, cafés and pubs close to the coast, so you can combine time on the beach with a walk around the village rather than having to drive elsewhere every day.

Beaches and Walks South of Abersoch

For a longer walk, the Wales Coast Path leaves Abersoch and follows the peninsula south towards Machroes and Porth Neigwl, also known as Hell’s Mouth. The official Abersoch to Hell’s Mouth route is around 9.5 miles, although you can simply follow a shorter section before turning back.

There are also smaller beaches and coves around this part of the peninsula. Porth Ceiriad, south of Abersoch, is one of the beaches highlighted by Visit Wales for dog-friendly days out and can be reached on foot from the surrounding coast path.

These quieter stretches of coast give you alternatives when the busiest part of Abersoch Beach is restricted during summer.

Follow the Coast towards Llanbedrog

In the opposite direction, the Wales Coast Path connects Abersoch with Llanbedrog. This gives you another straightforward choice for a coastal walk without having to follow the same route south each day. The official Coast Path itinerary follows the shoreline and surrounding headlands between the two villages.

Dogs are widely welcomed on the Wales Coast Path, but some sections pass livestock, wildlife and exposed cliff edges. Dogs should be kept under effective control, with a short lead used around livestock and wherever local signs request it.

With Abersoch Beach and the wider Llŷn coastline to explore, there is plenty of scope for different walks during your stay. For more places to stay with your dog across the region, browse our North Wales dog friendly coastal cottages.
