Seahouses Harbour and the Farne Islands

The harbour remains at the centre of Seahouses and is used by fishing boats as well as the boats that take visitors out to the Farne Islands. Trips leave directly from the harbour, with different cruises available depending on the season and weather conditions.

The Farne Islands lie a few miles offshore and are particularly well known for their wildlife. Puffins and other breeding seabirds can be seen during spring and summer, while grey seals can be spotted throughout the year. Inner Farne reopened for visitor landings in April 2026, although access and sailing schedules remain dependent on conditions.

Back in Seahouses, the village has shops, pubs, cafés and fish and chip shops within walking distance of the harbour.

Beaches, Walks and Places to Visit

Seahouses is well placed for exploring the wider Northumberland coast. Bamburgh is around three miles to the north, where the castle stands above the beach and village. Beadnell is a short distance south and has another long sandy bay.

The Northumberland Coast Path also passes through Seahouses, so you can follow the coastline in either direction rather than relying on the car for every day out.

Further afield, Holy Island and Lindisfarne Castle can be reached by road when the tidal causeway is open, while Alnwick is around a 25-minute drive inland.
