Walcott Beach and the Surrounding Coast

Walcott is one of the few places on the Norfolk coast where the road runs directly alongside the sea. The village has a small selection of cafés, a pub, a shop and holiday accommodation close to the beach. A concrete sea wall separates the coast road from the sand below.

Bacton is the next village to the north-west, with a sandy beach and coastal footpaths. To the south-east, Happisburgh is known for its red-and-white lighthouse, historic church and changing coastline.

Walcott Beach and Nearby Beaches

Walcott Beach is a long stretch of sand divided by wooden groynes, with steps leading down from the sea wall. There are public toilets and places to buy refreshments nearby. The beach is wider at low tide, so visitors planning longer walks should check tide times.

Bacton Beach continues along the coast towards Mundesley, while Happisburgh and Cart Gap provide further beaches to explore. In 2019, a major sand replenishment project added sand between Bacton and Walcott to improve coastal protection.

Coastal Walks and the Deep History Coast

The Norfolk Coast Path passes through Walcott, with routes towards Bacton and Happisburgh. The walk towards Happisburgh follows the seafront before continuing along low cliffs and farmland. Visitors can also follow a circular route through the countryside around Walcott and Happisburgh.

Walcott is part of the Deep History Coast Discovery Trail, which explores prehistoric discoveries made along this section of Norfolk. A discovery point near the beach provides information about the area’s ancient landscapes.
