Mundesley Cottages by the Sea

Choose from 51 self-catering holiday homes in Mundesley

Mundesley is a North Norfolk seaside village with a broad sandy beach below the cliffs and colourful beach huts along the seafront. The village itself has shops, cafés and pubs within walking distance of the coast, while clifftop paths provide views along the shoreline. Mundesley also lies on Norfolk’s Deep History Coast, where fossils found in the cliffs and on the beaches reveal a landscape dating back hundreds of thousands of years. Cromer is around eight miles along the coast, with Bacton and Happisburgh in the opposite direction.

Follow the Norfolk Coast from Mundesley

Mundesley is directly on the Norfolk Coast Path, making it easy to turn a beach holiday into a longer coastal walk. Head west and the route continues towards Trimingham, Overstrand and Cromer. The Cromer to Mundesley section is approximately eight miles, passing cliffs and beaches along the way.

East of the village, you can follow the shoreline towards Bacton and Walcott. The Mundesley to Walcott section of the Deep History Coast Discovery Trail is around three miles and follows firm sand and sea walls, although the beach section cannot be walked at high tide.

Fossils, Cliffs and the Deep History Coast

Mundesley forms part of the Deep History Coast, which stretches along this section of North Norfolk. A Discovery Point near the beach explains more about the area’s prehistoric landscape and forms part of a wider trail running from Weybourne to Cart Gap.

The cliffs around Mundesley are also geologically important and are protected as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Fossils can sometimes be found along the shoreline, particularly after material has been exposed by erosion, although visitors should keep away from unstable cliff faces.
