Thornham Village and the Old Harbour

Thornham is a traditional Norfolk village with flint cottages, historic pubs and several places to eat. Along the main road, Drove Orchards has a farm shop, restaurants and independent shops selling local produce and gifts.

The old harbour is reached along Staithe Lane, where a small collection of former fishing buildings overlooks the salt marshes. Fishing boats still use the tidal creek, and the surrounding paths provide views across the marshes towards the sea.

Thornham Beach and Nearby Beaches

Thornham Beach is a sandy beach reached by walking from the old harbour along the Norfolk Coast Path. The route crosses the marshes before reaching the dunes, with the beach approximately half a mile from the harbour. There are no facilities directly on the beach, and visitors should check tide times before setting out.

To the west, Holme Beach has another wide stretch of sand backed by dunes. Brancaster Beach lies further east and has parking and toilets near its main entrance.

Coastal Walks and Nature Reserves

The Norfolk Coast Path passes through Thornham, with walking routes towards Holme-next-the-Sea and Brancaster. The section around Thornham Harbour follows raised banks through the salt marshes, with views of tidal creeks and coastal wildlife.

Holme Dunes Nature Reserve is nearby, with trails through dunes, freshwater pools and grazing marshes. RSPB Titchwell Marsh is another popular destination, offering birdwatching hides and paths overlooking reedbeds and lagoons.
