Hunstanton Cottages by the Sea

Choose from 37 self-catering holiday homes in Hunstanton

Hunstanton is a seaside town on the west Norfolk coast, overlooking The Wash. Its unusual west-facing position means you can watch the sun set over the sea, while the shoreline is known for the distinctive striped cliffs at the northern end of town. Hunstanton has a beach, promenade and traditional seaside attractions, with the quieter sands of Old Hunstanton just along the coast. The Norfolk Coast Path also starts here, providing walking routes towards Holme-next-the-Sea, Thornham and Brancaster.

Sea View and Coastal Holidays in Hunstanton

Views across The Wash are one of the advantages of choosing a coastal cottage in Hunstanton. Some properties look towards the water, while other holiday homes are within walking distance of the seafront and town centre.

You can stay close to the main part of Hunstanton or choose accommodation further along the coast if you prefer to be away from the busiest streets. For more places to stay around the county, browse our Norfolk holiday cottages by the sea.

Old Hunstanton and the Norfolk Coast Path

Hunstanton marks the western end of the Norfolk Coast Path, making it a good starting point for exploring this part of the coastline on foot. The first major section runs for around nine miles from Hunstanton to Brancaster, passing Old Hunstanton, Holme-next-the-Sea and Thornham along the way.

You don’t need to walk the whole section. Old Hunstanton is close enough for a shorter trip from the town, while Holme-next-the-Sea gives you another beach and a much less developed stretch of coast.

Further east, Brancaster is surrounded by saltmarsh and open coastal countryside. If you want to stay further along this section of the Norfolk coast, you could also browse our Brancaster cottages by the sea.

Explore More of the North Norfolk Coast

Hunstanton is well placed for exploring some of Norfolk’s best-known coastal destinations. Heacham lies immediately to the south, while Holme-next-the-Sea, Thornham, Brancaster and Titchwell are found as you travel east. RSPB Titchwell Marsh combines reedbeds, lagoons, marshes and a sandy beach, making it a particularly interesting stop if you want to see some of the wildlife of the Norfolk coast.

Continue east and you’ll eventually reach Holkham and Wells-next-the-Sea. Wells has a working harbour and a huge sandy beach backed by pinewoods, so it makes a good contrast to Hunstanton’s traditional seafront. If you’re planning to spend more time around this part of Norfolk, take a look at our Wells-next-the-Sea cottages by the sea.

Back in Hunstanton, you can explore the Esplanade Gardens, walk along the promenade or visit the seafront attractions. The town’s location also means you can see the sunset over The Wash, something you don’t normally get from an east-coast resort.
