Sheringham Beach and the Norfolk Coast Path

Sheringham Beach is a mixture of sand and shingle, with broad areas of sand exposed at low tide. Colourful beach huts line parts of the promenade, while cafés, shops and public toilets are close to the shore. The beach is popular for swimming and family days out during summer, although visitors should check tide times because much of the sand disappears at high tide.

The Norfolk Coast Path passes through Sheringham, with walking routes in both directions. Heading east, the path climbs Beeston Bump, a prominent hill overlooking the town and coastline, before continuing towards West Runton and Cromer. West of Sheringham, the route leads towards Weybourne, passing clifftop viewpoints and open countryside.

Nearby Cromer cottages by the sea offer another choice for visitors who want to stay close to a traditional Norfolk seaside town with a pier, sandy beach and coastal walks.

Steam Trains, Sheringham Park and Local Attractions

The North Norfolk Railway, also known as the Poppy Line, is one of Sheringham’s best-known attractions. Heritage steam and diesel trains run between Sheringham and Holt, passing through the countryside and stopping at Weybourne. The railway holds special events throughout the year, alongside its regular operating programme.

Sheringham Park, managed by the National Trust, has woodland walks, landscaped gardens and clifftop viewpoints. The park is particularly well known for its rhododendrons and azaleas, which flower during spring and early summer.

Sheringham also has the Fishermen’s Heritage Centre, which tells the story of the town’s fishing and lifeboat history. The town’s independent shops, cafés and traditional pubs provide plenty of options after a day on the beach or exploring the surrounding countryside.
