Dog Friendly Cottages in Cromer by the Sea

Choose from 35 dog friendly holiday homes in Cromer

Cromer gives you a good mix of beach and coastal walks when you are travelling with a dog. There are seasonal restrictions on the central section of the beach, but these only apply from May to September and do not cover the entire coastline. Our Cromer dog friendly cottages include places to stay around the town and surrounding area, with walks towards East Runton, Overstrand and other parts of the North Norfolk coast nearby. Outside the summer restriction period, dogs can also enjoy more of Cromer’s main beach.

Exploring Cromer with Your Dog

From 1 May to 30 September, dogs are excluded from a designated section of Cromer Beach. Dogs must also be kept on a lead on specified sections of the promenade during the same period. The restrictions are clearly defined rather than applying to every stretch of beach around Cromer.

From October through April, the seasonal beach restriction is lifted. This gives you much more freedom to combine a walk around the town with time on the sand.

If you are staying during summer, check the signs when you reach the seafront. They show where the dog-free and dogs-on-leads areas begin and end.

Walk the Coast towards East Runton

East Runton lies just over a mile west of Cromer and can be reached using the coastal route. The Deep History Coast Discovery Trail between East Runton and Cromer is around 1.25 miles, using grassy paths, tracks and clifftop sections before reaching Cromer’s promenade.

East Runton itself has a long sandy beach when the tide is out. There is a designated seasonal dog-free section here too, so check the current signs if you want to take your dog onto the beach between May and September.

For a longer day out, you can continue west along the coast towards West Runton and Sheringham.

Cromer to Overstrand with Your Dog

Head in the opposite direction and Overstrand is around two miles from Cromer. The Deep History Coast route can be walked along the beach except around the highest tides, with an alternative route climbing from the promenade and following the clifftop.

Overstrand also has a seasonal dog-free section from May to September, so beach access needs a little planning during summer. The clifftop and coastal walking routes provide an alternative when beach restrictions are in force.

These routes make Cromer particularly handy if you want more than a short walk along the promenade each day. You can head west towards East Runton or east towards Overstrand without having to drive to start every walk.
