Dog-Friendly Cottages Near Woolacombe Beach

Woolacombe Beach stretches for more than two miles around Morte Bay, giving you plenty of room for longer walks along the sand. Dogs can use the beach throughout the year, but it is divided into different zones during the main season.

At the village end, dogs are not allowed between the rocks and the stream from Good Friday or 1 April, whichever comes first, until 30 September. Restrictions apply from 9am to 6pm. Between the stream and Mill Rock, dogs must be kept on leads during the same period. South of Mill Rock, dogs can be exercised without these restrictions.

This means you don’t have to avoid Woolacombe Beach during a summer holiday with your dog. You simply need to use the appropriate section and check the signs when you arrive.

Barricane Beach and Other Places to Walk

Barricane Beach is a small cove just north of Woolacombe. Dogs are allowed, although they must be kept on a lead when the beach café is in place, usually between March and September. Nearby Combesgate Beach has separate seasonal restrictions, so check the signs before heading down to the beach.

For a longer walk, head up towards Mortehoe and Morte Point. The South West Coast Path runs around the headland, with a 4.6-mile circular route from Mortehoe. The official Coast Path guide rates it as moderate, with some steep sections and steps, and specifically lists it as a walk that is suitable for people with dogs.

Dogs are permitted along the entire South West Coast Path, but should be kept under close control around livestock, wildlife and cliff edges.
