Discover St Davids, Whitesands Bay and the Pembrokeshire Coast

St Davids is a small historic city surrounded by some of Pembrokeshire’s most dramatic coastline. Its traditional cottages and coastal holiday homes offer accommodation close to the cathedral, independent shops and local restaurants. The city lies slightly inland, with sandy beaches, sheltered coves and clifftop walking routes just a short distance away.

Whitesands Beach, Caerfai Bay and Coastal Walks

Whitesands Bay is one of Pembrokeshire’s best-known surfing beaches, with a wide sandy shoreline overlooked by Carn Llidi. Facilities include parking, toilets, a café and seasonal lifeguard cover.

South of St Davids, Caerfai Bay is a smaller cove surrounded by sandstone cliffs. The beach has rock pools and sand exposed at low tide, although access is via a steep path.

The Pembrokeshire Coast Path follows the peninsula past St Davids Head, Porthclais Harbour and St Non’s Bay. Further east, Solva has a sheltered harbour, waterfront pubs and independent shops. Visitors considering another village nearby can find holiday cottages in Solva.

St Davids Cathedral, Bishop’s Palace and Nearby Attractions

St Davids Cathedral has been a place of pilgrimage for centuries and remains the city’s best-known landmark. Next to the cathedral, the ruins of St Davids Bishop’s Palace provide an insight into the area’s medieval history.

The city centre has independent shops, galleries, cafés and restaurants. Oriel y Parc Gallery and Visitor Centre has exhibitions and information about the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.

At nearby St Justinian’s, boat trips offer opportunities to explore Ramsey Sound and the waters around Ramsey Island, known for its seabirds and grey seals.
