Snettisham Beach and Nearby Beaches

Snettisham Beach is a mainly shingle shoreline overlooking The Wash, with large areas of mudflat exposed at low tide. The beach is popular for coastal walks, birdwatching and fishing, although visitors should be careful around tidal channels and soft mud.

Further north, Heacham has sandy beaches at North Beach and South Beach, with parking and refreshments nearby. Hunstanton offers a traditional seaside setting, with a promenade, beach attractions and distinctive striped cliffs.

RSPB Snettisham and Coastal Wildlife

RSPB Snettisham Nature Reserve is one of the main attractions along this stretch of coast. The reserve has walking trails and birdwatching hides overlooking lagoons, salt marshes and the mudflats of The Wash.

During certain high spring tides, thousands of wading birds, including knots, dunlins and oystercatchers, gather in large flocks as the incoming tide covers their feeding grounds. Pink-footed geese are another seasonal attraction, arriving in large numbers during autumn and winter.

Historic Sites and Places to Visit

Snettisham Park is a family attraction on the edge of the village, offering deer safaris and opportunities to see farm animals. The village also has several historic buildings, including St Mary’s Church, which dates mainly from the 14th century.

The Sandringham Estate is a short drive inland, with woodland walks, gardens and a royal residence open to visitors at selected times. Further north, Hunstanton has shops, restaurants and seaside attractions, while King’s Lynn is within easy reach for shopping and historic buildings.
