Overstrand is a seaside village on the North Norfolk coast, around two miles east of Cromer. The village has a sandy beach backed by cliffs, a seafront promenade, colourful beach huts and a small selection of shops, pubs and cafés. At low tide, the beach provides plenty of space for walking and enjoying the shoreline. Overstrand also has several countryside footpaths leading towards Northrepps and Southrepps, while Cromer’s pier, restaurants and shops are nearby. Our Overstrand cottages by the sea offer a convenient base for exploring this quieter part of the Norfolk coastline.

Overstrand Beach and Village Life

Overstrand is a small coastal village with traditional flint cottages, a village shop, pubs and a cliff-top café. The seafront has a promenade and beach huts, while the main beach car park is located at the end of Cliff Road.

Cromer is just along the coast, offering a Victorian pier, shops, restaurants and a railway station. Visitors looking for accommodation in the neighbouring town can also explore our Cromer cottages by the sea.

Overstrand Beach and the Seafront

Overstrand Beach has a mixture of sand and shingle, with wide stretches of sand exposed at low tide. Access is available from the cliff-top car park via a sloping path, and the beach is backed by cliffs and sea defences.

The promenade is home to working fishing boats and traditional beach huts. Coastal erosion has affected parts of the sea wall, so visitors should check for temporary closures and follow local signs before walking along the seafront.

Coastal Walks and Countryside Paths

Overstrand has several footpaths connecting the village with Cromer, Northrepps and Southrepps. The cliff-top route towards Cromer offers views across the coastline, while inland paths pass through farmland and small wooded areas.

The Norfolk Coast Path also passes through the area, although some sections have been diverted because of cliff movement. Walkers can use the signposted Paston Way diversion where the coastal route is closed.

Places to Visit Near Overstrand

Cromer is the main nearby attraction, with its pier, Pavilion Theatre, museums and traditional seaside shops. The town is also known for Cromer crab, caught by local fishing boats.

Further inland, Felbrigg Hall has historic rooms, gardens and woodland walks. The villages of Northrepps and Southrepps provide additional countryside walking routes, while Mundesley is another seaside village a short drive along the coast.
