Exploring Menai Bridge and the Menai Strait

Menai Bridge is a historic town on the eastern side of Anglesey, with views across the Menai Strait and its two famous bridges. Its coastal holiday homes include traditional cottages near the town centre and properties overlooking the water. The town has independent shops, cafés and restaurants, with waterfront walks and several attractions nearby.

Menai Suspension Bridge, Waterfront Walks and Church Island

The Menai Suspension Bridge was designed by Thomas Telford and opened in 1826. It connects Anglesey with the mainland and remains one of the area’s best-known landmarks. Visitors can walk along the waterfront for views of the bridge and the surrounding coastline.

The Belgian Promenade follows the shoreline towards Church Island, a small island reached by a causeway. Here, St Tysilio’s Church stands in a peaceful churchyard overlooking the Menai Strait.

The Wales Coast Path passes through Menai Bridge, with walking routes along the waterfront and towards neighbouring villages.

Plas Cadnant Gardens, Beaumaris and Nearby Attractions

Plas Cadnant Hidden Gardens is located just outside Menai Bridge, with restored historic gardens, woodland paths and waterfalls. The town also has the Menai Heritage exhibition, which explores the history of the Menai Suspension Bridge and Britannia Bridge.

A short journey east, Beaumaris has a medieval castle, seafront promenade and views across the Menai Strait. Visitors considering another waterfront town can view our collection of Beaumaris holiday cottages.

Across the strait, Caernarfon is known for its historic castle, harbour and town walls. Our coastal cottages in Caernarfon offer another option for exploring this part of North Wales.
