Lyme Regis is a historic seaside town on Dorset’s Jurassic Coast, close to the Devon border. Our Lyme Regis cottages by the sea put you close to the town’s beaches, harbour and seafront, with cafés, restaurants and independent shops nearby. Walk along Marine Parade to the Cobb, spend the day on Front Beach or explore the fossil-rich shoreline around Monmouth Beach. The South West Coast Path also passes through Lyme Regis, while Charmouth and other parts of the west Dorset coast are within easy reach.

Sea View Cottages on the Jurassic Coast

Because Lyme Regis rises away from the shoreline, cottages occupy very different positions around the town. Some properties have elevated views across Lyme Bay, while others are lower down and closer to the seafront.

That gives you a choice between prioritising the outlook or being closer to the centre and coast. Staying in one of our Lyme Regis beach cottages puts the seafront, harbour and town centre within easy reach, although exact walking distances will depend on the property you choose.

The Cobb, Harbour and Lyme Regis Town Centre

The Cobb is Lyme Regis’s best-known landmark. The historic harbour wall protects the harbour, which is still used by commercial fishing boats. You can walk along the Cobb in suitable weather, watch the boats or book fishing and boat trips from the harbour.

Marine Parade connects the Cobb with the lower part of town and runs for around 600 metres along the seafront. Cafés, restaurants and ice cream shops can be found around this area, while Broad Street and the surrounding streets have more places to eat and shop.

Langmoor and Lister Gardens sit above the seafront, with paths through the gardens and views across Lyme Bay. Mini golf, putting and table tennis are also available here.

Fossils, Coastal Walks and Places to Visit

Lyme Regis forms part of the Jurassic Coast and is one of Dorset’s best-known destinations for fossil hunting. Monmouth Beach and the beaches east of the town are particularly associated with fossils, although tides and unstable cliffs need to be taken into account when exploring the shoreline.

The South West Coast Path passes through Lyme Regis, giving you routes in both directions along the coast. You can also follow the River Lim inland or take shorter walks around the town and seafront.

Charmouth is the next coastal village to the east and is another well-known fossil-hunting location. For a wider choice of places to stay along this stretch of the coast, browse our Dorset cottages by the sea.
