Dog Friendly Cottages in Filey by the Sea

Choose from 25 dog friendly holiday homes in Filey

Filey has around five miles of sandy beach, giving you plenty of space for walks with your dog throughout the year. During summer, dogs are excluded from the central section in front of the promenade, but large stretches of beach remain available in both directions. Our Filey dog friendly cottages include places to stay around the town and surrounding coast, with Filey Brigg, Hunmanby Gap and several long-distance walking routes nearby. From October through April, the seasonal restriction is lifted and dogs can use the full length of Filey Beach.

Dog Friendly Beach Holidays in Filey

Filey’s long sandy bay is one of its biggest advantages if you’re travelling with a dog. Between 1 May and 30 September, dogs are excluded from a defined central section running from Royal Parade to Coble Landing. The restriction does not cover the entire beach.

Head north from the main seafront and dogs can use the sand towards Filey Brigg throughout the year. Walk south beyond Royal Parade and there is another long unrestricted stretch leading towards Hunmanby Gap. From 1 October to 30 April, dogs are allowed back onto the central section as well.

This makes Filey particularly practical if daily beach walks are part of the holiday. Just remember to check the signs around the main promenade during the summer, as they mark the exact boundaries of the exclusion area.

Walk from Filey to Hunmanby Gap

Hunmanby Gap is one of the easiest places to add to a dog-friendly stay in Filey. The beach lies south of town and welcomes dogs throughout the year. At lower tides, the wide sandy shoreline provides a long continuous walk, although the available beach becomes considerably narrower as the tide rises.

Access at Hunmanby Gap is via a steep path from the clifftop car park, so it may not suit every dog or owner. If you’re planning to walk along the beach from Filey, check the tide times before setting off rather than relying on the sand being accessible for the return journey.

Filey Brigg and Longer Coastal Walks

At the northern end of the bay, Filey Brigg marks the start or finish of the Cleveland Way. From here, the trail heads north along the cliffs towards Cayton Bay, Scarborough and eventually Whitby. The King Charles III England Coast Path follows the same route north, while heading south takes you towards Flamborough Head and Bridlington.

Filey is also one end of the Yorkshire Wolds Way, so you’re not limited to beach and clifftop walks. Whichever route you choose, keep your dog under close control around livestock, wildlife and exposed cliff edges.
