Dog-Friendly Holidays in Croyde

Croyde is a particularly good place to stay if walking is going to be a big part of your holiday. The village is close to the beach and you can reach Baggy Point and the South West Coast Path without travelling far.

From 1 October to 30 April, dogs are allowed on Croyde Beach. Between 1 May and 30 September, dogs are not permitted on the beach itself. During this period they can still be walked in the dunes behind the beach, but North Devon Council requires them to be kept on a lead.

If you are visiting during the summer, Saunton Sands is only a short drive south of Croyde and provides another option for a day on the beach with your dog.

Walk to Baggy Point from Croyde

Baggy Point is one of the easiest places to reach on foot from Croyde. The National Trust manages the headland and has several marked walks, including a two-mile circular route and a more demanding 4.5-mile route around the headland. Both are dog friendly.

Dogs should be kept on a lead around Baggy Point because the paths run close to cliff edges and livestock can be present in the surrounding fields. The National Trust also recommends leads during the bird-nesting season and busy summer months.

You can continue along the coast towards Putsborough if you want a longer walk, or return to Croyde for a shorter circular route.

Staying in Croyde also puts several other parts of the North Devon coast within easy reach. Saunton Sands lies to the south, while Putsborough and Woolacombe are on the other side of Baggy Point. This gives you alternatives when Croyde’s summer dog restriction is in force.

Beach rules vary, particularly during the main holiday season, so check the signs when you arrive. Our guide to dog-friendly beaches in Devon has more information on beaches you can visit elsewhere along the coast.
