Camber sands beach in East Sussex

Camber Cottages by the Sea

Choose from 21 self-catering holiday homes in Camber

Camber is a small East Sussex village beside Camber Sands, a huge sandy beach backed by dunes. More than two miles of sand stretch along Rye Bay, making the beach the main reason most people choose to stay here. Holiday cottages are available around the village and close to the beach, while historic Rye is just a few miles inland. You can also explore Rye Harbour, walk through the dunes or head west along the coast towards Winchelsea Beach.

Rye is Just Along the Coast

One advantage of staying in Camber is having Rye nearby. Rather than another seaside resort, Rye offers a complete change from a day on the sand, with its historic streets, independent shops, cafés and restaurants.

You can travel between Camber and Rye by road, bus or bike. A Sustrans cycle route connects the two, so it’s possible to leave the car behind for a trip into town. Rye also provides a useful starting point for exploring this corner of East Sussex, including Rye Harbour and the coastline west towards Winchelsea.

Walking and Exploring Around Camber

For an easy walk, you can simply follow Camber Sands for as far as the tide and conditions allow. The scale of the beach means even a short walk can take you well away from the busiest access points.

The wider Rye Bay area adds more variety, with coastal habitats around Rye Harbour and the shingle landscape continuing towards Winchelsea Beach. Head east instead and the coast eventually changes again as you approach the huge shingle landscape around Dungeness in Kent.
