Teignmouth Beach, Pier and Coastal Walks

Teignmouth Town Beach stretches along the seafront, with a promenade, cafés, public toilets and the Victorian Grand Pier. Behind the harbour, the Back Beach overlooks the River Teign, where fishing boats and pleasure craft moor along the shore.

The South West Coast Path follows the coastline towards Dawlish, passing the distinctive red cliffs and railway line beside the sea. Dawlish has a sandy beach, traditional town centre and the famous black swans found around Dawlish Water. Visitors planning to explore this part of the coast can also find holiday accommodation in Dawlish.

Teignmouth Harbour, Shaldon and Local Attractions

Teignmouth has a working harbour, independent shops and several attractions, including Teignmouth Pavilions and the Teign Heritage Museum. The town’s seafront gardens and promenade provide plenty of space for walking and enjoying views across the bay.

Across the estuary, Shaldon is a small fishing village with a sandy beach, waterfront pubs and narrow streets. The historic passenger ferry runs between Teignmouth’s Back Beach and Shaldon Beach, subject to weather and operating conditions. Our Shaldon holiday cottages offer accommodation on the opposite side of the river.

Shaldon is also home to Ness Cove, a secluded beach reached through a historic smugglers’ tunnel beneath the cliffs. For more destinations along the coastline, see our wider selection of holiday cottages on the Devon coast.
