Dog Friendly Cottages in St Ives by the Sea

Choose from 145 dog friendly holiday homes in St Ives

St Ives has several beaches within a short walk of the town centre, but dog access changes depending on the beach and time of year. Bamaluz Beach is available to dogs throughout the year, while restrictions apply at some of the larger beaches during the summer. Our St Ives dog-friendly cottages include properties for couples, families and groups, with options close to the harbour, beaches and South West Coast Path. Some properties accept more than one dog, and selected cottages have enclosed gardens or other private outside space.

A Dog-Friendly Stay in St Ives

One advantage of staying in St Ives is that you can reach several beaches and coastal walks without driving. Bamaluz Beach, between the harbour and Porthgwidden, is one of the most useful for dog owners because dogs are allowed throughout the year.

The South West Coast Path also runs directly through St Ives. Head west from Porthmeor and the route quickly leaves the town behind, continuing towards Clodgy Point and along the coast towards Zennor. This section has steep and uneven stretches, so allow more time if you are planning a longer walk.

Summer Rules at St Ives Beaches

The main beaches don’t all have the same rules. Cornwall Council currently prohibits dogs on Porthmeor and Porthminster between 10am and 6pm from 15 May to 30 September. The Harbour Beach has a shorter restriction, from 10am to 6pm during July and August.

These restrictions still leave early mornings and evenings available at the affected beaches. Bamaluz provides an alternative when daytime restrictions are operating.

It’s worth checking the current signs before going onto the sand, particularly because privately managed beaches can operate their own rules. Cornwall Council also reviews its beach restrictions periodically.

St Ives also works well if you want to explore other parts of the west Cornwall coast. Carbis Bay is around two miles away, while Hayle and its long stretch of coastline are on the opposite side of St Ives Bay.

For longer walks, the coast path continues west from St Ives towards Zennor and eventually around the Penwith peninsula. Keep dogs under close control around livestock and near cliff edges, particularly once you leave the built-up areas around town.
