Discover Slapton Sands, the Nature Reserve and South Devon Coast

Slapton is a traditional village surrounded by countryside, just inland from the coast at Start Bay. Its thatched cottages, village pubs and quiet lanes offer a different setting from the nearby beachfront villages. Coastal holiday homes and cottages around Slapton provide access to the three-mile shingle beach, Slapton Ley and the South West Coast Path.

Slapton Sands, Slapton Ley and Coastal Walks

Slapton Sands is a long shingle beach stretching between Torcross and Strete Gate. The beach is backed by Slapton Ley, the largest natural freshwater lake in South West England. The nature reserve has walking trails, birdwatching opportunities and a variety of wetland habitats.

At the southern end of the beach, Torcross has seafront cafés, restaurants and a promenade. Visitors can also see the Sherman tank memorial commemorating American servicemen who died during Exercise Tiger, a rehearsal for the D-Day landings in 1944.

If you’d prefer accommodation directly beside the beach, our Torcross seafront cottages include properties overlooking Start Bay.
