Fishing Villages and Sandy Beaches on the Berwickshire Coast

The Scottish Borders coastline stretches along the North Sea, with rocky headlands, sheltered sandy bays and historic fishing villages. Its coastal holiday homes are concentrated around Eyemouth, St Abbs and nearby communities, with traditional cottages and properties overlooking the sea. The Berwickshire coast is particularly popular for walking, with several beaches, harbours and nature reserves to explore.

Coldingham Bay, Eyemouth and Coastal Walks

Coldingham Bay is one of the region’s best-known beaches, with a sheltered stretch of sand backed by grassy slopes. Facilities include parking, public toilets, a beach café and colourful beach huts. The bay is popular for surfing, swimming and rock pooling.

Nearby Eyemouth has a working fishing harbour, a sandy beach and waterfront restaurants. Further south, Burnmouth is a small fishing village surrounded by steep cliffs, while Pease Bay has another sandy beach popular with surfers.

The Berwickshire Coastal Path connects these communities, following clifftop routes with views across the North Sea.

St Abb’s Head, Coastal Wildlife and Historic Attractions

St Abb’s Head National Nature Reserve is known for its high cliffs, seabird colonies and coastal walking trails. Guillemots, razorbills and kittiwakes can be seen nesting on the cliffs during the breeding season.

The nearby village of St Abbs has a small working harbour and is a popular destination for diving and marine wildlife watching. The surrounding waters form part of the St Abbs and Eyemouth Voluntary Marine Reserve.

Other attractions include Gunsgreen House overlooking Eyemouth Harbour and the historic fishing village of Cove, where a sheltered harbour can be reached through a tunnel in the cliffs.
