Stay Close to Newquay’s Dog-Friendly Beaches

Where you stay can make a real difference if you plan to visit the beach with your dog every day. Fistral Beach allows dogs throughout the year and has parking close to the beach, making it one of the easiest choices on the western side of Newquay.

Towan Beach is another year-round option and is right in the centre of town. From here, shops, cafés and the harbour are close by, so you don’t necessarily need to use the car for a trip to the beach.

On the other side of Pentire Headland, the Gannel Estuary opens onto Crantock Beach. Both are dog friendly throughout the year. At low tide, large areas of sand are exposed around the estuary, although you need to check tide times carefully before walking here.

Walk Beyond the Town

Newquay also gives you access to longer walks when you want more than a trip to the beach. The South West Coast Path runs through the area, with routes heading north towards Watergate Bay and south around Pentire towards the Gannel and Crantock.

Watergate Bay is around 3 miles from Newquay and allows dogs throughout the year. Crantock is another option for a longer walk, with the beach backed by dunes and connected to the surrounding coast path.

Check the Rules Before Heading to the Beach

Most of Newquay’s main beaches are particularly straightforward for dog owners, but don’t assume that every beach has the same rules. Some privately managed beaches can set their own restrictions, and seasonal rules can change.

It is also worth checking tide times. Several of Newquay’s beaches become much smaller at high tide, and the Gannel is a tidal estuary where conditions change significantly as the tide comes in.
