Watergate Bay Cottages by the Sea

Choose from 49 self-catering holiday homes in Watergate Bay

Watergate Bay is built around one of the longest beaches near Newquay, with around two miles of sand below the cliffs of the North Cornwall coast. Our Watergate Bay cottages by the sea put this large Atlantic beach within easy reach, whether you are coming for surfing, swimming or simply spending time on the sand. There are places to eat beside the beach, while the South West Coast Path runs along the cliffs above the bay. Newquay lies to the south, with Mawgan Porth a short distance further up the coast.

Beach Cottages and Sea View Holidays at Watergate Bay

If you want to stay close to the coast rather than in nearby Newquay, Watergate Bay has holiday properties in and around the surrounding area. Some cottages offer Atlantic sea views, while others are positioned a little further back from the shore.

Accommodation ranges from smaller coastal stays to larger holiday homes for families and groups. Watergate Bay also features in our guide to the top 10 beaches in Cornwall, alongside places such as Fistral, Perranporth, Carbis Bay and Sennen Cove.

Surfing and the Coast Path

Watergate Bay is used for surfing and other watersports, with lessons and equipment hire available locally. The size of the beach also means there is plenty of space away from the main surfing area when conditions allow.

For walkers, the South West Coast Path follows the cliffs above the bay. Heading south takes you towards Porth and Newquay, with the Coast Path distance between Watergate Bay and Newquay around 3.5 miles. In the opposite direction, the path continues towards Mawgan Porth and then further along the North Cornwall coast.

There is also a 5.3-mile circular walk around Tregurrian and Trevarrian, which starts above Watergate Bay before passing through Mawgan Porth and returning inland.

Newquay, Mawgan Porth and Nearby Beaches

Newquay is only a few miles from Watergate Bay, giving you easy access to the town’s shops, restaurants, harbour and other beaches. Porth Beach lies between Watergate Bay and Newquay, while Fistral Beach can be found on the western side of the town.

North of Watergate Bay, Mawgan Porth has another sandy beach surrounded by high cliffs. The Coast Path connects the two, so it can be reached on foot as well as by road. For more places to stay along this part of Cornwall, browse our Cornwall cottages by the sea.
