Swanage Pier, Railway and Town

Swanage Pier dates from the Victorian period and is one of the town’s best-known landmarks. As well as walking along the pier, you can take boat trips from here to see more of the Dorset coastline.

Swanage Railway provides another way to explore the area. Heritage steam and diesel trains run inland from Swanage towards Corfe Castle, making it possible to combine the seaside with a visit to one of Purbeck’s best-known villages.

The town itself has cafés, pubs, restaurants and independent shops, with much of the centre within walking distance of the seafront.

The Coast Path continues towards Anvil Point Lighthouse, while heading north from Swanage takes you towards Ballard Down, Old Harry Rocks and Studland.
