The stunning Durham National Heritage Coast extends northward from the quaint coastal town of Hartlepool to the mouth of the Tyne in South Shields. Apart from being a Heritage area it is a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to its unique variety of fauna, flora and geological marvels, namely at Marsden Rock and Blackhall Rocks, where sea stacks form enormous cathedral like outcrops and arches. The Durham Heritage Coast is a paradise for nature lovers and walkers, especially the 11 mile coastal path from Seaham to Crimdon, known as the National Trail.
