The nearest shops and pubs are in the picture-postcard fishing port of Staithes (1 mile). A huge draw for artists and photographers, this village is adorned with pastel-painted fishermen's cottages and winding cobbled streets. It also has a connection to the famous Captain James Cook, which you can learn more about at the Staithes Heritage Centre. If you fancy a bucket and spade day out on the sand, the seaside resorts of Whitby (11 miles) and Robin Hood's Bay (16 miles) are within close proximity.
