The golden sands stretch for 3 miles from Hayle Towans to Godrevy Point, and Gwithian Beach further along the coast offers flat, open sand for kite flying and horse riding – ponies are a regular sight cantering through the shallows. Godrevy headland – owned by the National Trust – rises beyond the beach to clifftop walks above Mutton Cove, home to a grey seal colony. The Saltings nature reserve on the estuary draws birdwatchers for murmurations during the shoulder months, and St Ives and Carbis Bay are accessible by a scenic coastal train line that hugs the shore.
